Product Details

Holden is a black chukka boot made with shell cordovan. The ankle-height chukka profile combines a compact upper with lace-up fastening.

Leather and finish

The upper is shell cordovan, with horse leather lining and a cowhide insole. The wash is applied to the assembled shoe, making it part of the finish on this pair.

Construction and sole

Goodyear-welted construction is paired with a leather sole with Vibram® rubber patches. The listed heel height is 5 cm.

You can tell these are built pretty solidly as soon as you pick them up. I especially like how the cordovan starts showing more character with wear. They aren’t lightweight boots, so I wouldn’t expect a sneaker-like feel.

I’ve worn these mostly with jeans and chinos and they’re surprisingly easy to match. The black leather and lighter laces give them a nice vintage feel. The heel is higher than I’m used to, but I adjusted pretty quickly.

These have a simple shape but still look different from most black boots I own. The leather catches the light nicely without looking overly shiny. Break-in took a little longer than my calfskin boots.

The cordovan has a really interesting texture in person and feels very solid. The construction looks clean and the sole has a good amount of structure. They’re a little heavy, but that doesn’t bother me much.

I like the shorter chukka shape and the contrast from the brown leather laces. They look great with dark jeans or heavier wool pants. Definitely a more substantial boot than what I normally wear.

The leather is what really stands out on these. It has a rich black finish with a lot more depth than regular smooth leather. They felt pretty firm at first, but started getting more comfortable after a few wears.
