Railman is a black moc-toe wedge boot made with horse leather. Moc-toe stitching follows the front of the shoe, outlining the toe panel and giving the upper a distinct shape.

Leather and finish

The upper is horse leather, with horse leather lining and a cowhide insole. The wash is applied to the assembled shoe, making it part of the finish on this pair.

Goodyear-welted construction is paired with a leather sole with rubber patches.

I really like the brown leather because it has some natural variation instead of looking flat. I’ve worn them with dark denim and heavier chinos and they work well with both. The heel area needed a few wears before it felt completely comfortable.

These feel very solid as soon as you put them on. The rubber outsole has good grip and the whole shoe feels well supported. They’re definitely heavier than a typical casual shoe, but I expected that with this kind of construction.

The horse leather has a really nice depth to it and looks even better in person. The moc-toe stitching gives the shoe some character without making it too busy. They were a little stiff the first couple of wears, but they’re starting to break in nicely.
