Ironwood is a black tall moc-toe boot made with horse leather. Moc-toe stitching follows the front of the shoe, outlining the toe panel and giving the upper a distinct shape.

Leather and finish

The upper is horse leather, with horse leather lining and a cowhide insole. The wash is applied to the assembled shoe, making it part of the finish on this pair.

Goodyear-welted construction is paired with a leather sole with rubber patches.

I wanted a black boot that looked a little different from the usual Chelsea or combat boot. The stitching and taller shape give these a lot more personality. They run visually pretty bold, so I usually keep the rest of the outfit simple.

The zipper is probably my favorite detail on these. I don’t have to mess with the laces every time I put them on, and they still feel secure once they’re zipped up. The leather was firm out of the box but not uncomfortable.

Really like the combination of the moc toe and front zipper. They have a rugged look without feeling overly work-boot-ish. The sole is fairly substantial, so don’t expect them to feel like lightweight sneakers.

The tall shaft was what caught my attention, and it looks even better on foot. The black leather works with pretty much everything in my closet. They took a little time to break in around the ankle.

These boots definitely have some weight to them, but I like the solid feel. The moc-toe stitching gives them more character than a basic black boot. I’ve mostly been wearing them with dark jeans.

The leather has a nice texture and feels pretty substantial in person. I especially like the front zipper because it makes getting these on and off much easier. They felt a little stiff at first but loosened up after a few wears.
