Foster is a coffee brown side-zip boot made with shell cordovan. A side zipper sits alongside the boot profile, keeping the fastening away from the front.

Leather and finish

The upper is shell cordovan, with horse leather lining and a cowhide insole. The wash is applied to the assembled shoe, making it part of the finish on this pair.

Construction and sole

Goodyear-welted construction is paired with a leather sole with Vibram® rubber patches. The listed heel height is 5 cm.

The leather is what stood out to me most. It has a smooth finish without looking overly shiny, and the color has a lot of character. Break-in took me a few wears, especially around the front.

I bought these mainly for work and nicer dinners. The brown is dark enough to dress up but still works well with jeans on the weekend. After a few wears they started shaping to my feet nicely.

These feel very substantial when you pick them up. The leather and welted construction give them a solid, old-school feel. They’re heavier than my regular dress shoes, so that took a little getting used to.

The coffee brown color is really nice in person. It has more depth than a regular brown leather shoe and looks different depending on the light. They were a little stiff at first, but that’s pretty much what I expected from cordovan.
