Product Details

Sawyer is a coffee brown plain-toe derby made with shell cordovan. The plain toe keeps the front free of a cap seam, making the shape of the upper the focus.

Leather and finish

The upper is shell cordovan, with horse leather lining and a cowhide insole. The wash is applied to the assembled shoe, making it part of the finish on this pair.

Construction and sole

Goodyear-welted construction is paired with a leather sole with Vibram® rubber patches. The listed heel height is 5 cm.

How to wear it

Wear the derby with straight trousers or dark denim. The open-laced profile gives you a clear view of the upper beneath the trouser hem.

The shell cordovan is what stood out to me most. It has a smooth finish without looking overly shiny, and the color has some natural variation. The heel is a little higher than what I normally wear, but it still feels stable.

I like how clean the plain-toe shape looks with dress pants or dark denim. The shoes feel very solid underfoot and the outsole has good grip. They’re definitely heavier than my usual office shoes, so that took a little getting used to.

The coffee brown cordovan has a really nice depth to it, especially in natural light. The leather feels substantial and the camel-colored laces are a nice contrast. They were pretty firm at first, but started breaking in after a few wears.
