Hudson is a coffee brown plain-toe derby made with shell cordovan. The plain toe keeps the front free of a cap seam, making the shape of the upper the focus.

Leather and finish

The upper is shell cordovan, with horse leather lining and a cowhide insole.

Construction and sole

Goodyear-welted construction is paired with a leather sole with rubber patches. The listed heel height is 5 cm.

These have a solid, heavier feel that I actually enjoy. The plain toe keeps them clean enough for dress pants, while the thicker sole makes them work with jeans too. Definitely not a lightweight shoe.

I really like the shade of brown on these. It changes a little depending on the light and doesn’t look flat or overly polished. They were fairly stiff the first couple of times I wore them.

The coffee brown color has a lot more depth in person than it does in the photos. The shell cordovan feels thick and substantial, and after a few wears it started to soften up nicely.
