Rivington is a black elastic-side brogue shoe made with shell cordovan. Brogue detailing brings perforated patterns to the upper, drawing attention to the panels and toe.

Leather and finish

The upper is shell cordovan, with horse leather lining and a cowhide insole.

Construction and sole

Goodyear-welted construction is paired with a leather sole with rubber patches. The listed heel height is 5 cm.

The leather was the main reason I went with this pair. It has a smooth finish without looking overly glossy, and I’m curious to see how it ages. The sole feels sturdy, although these aren’t what I’d call lightweight shoes.

I like the clean black finish because it works with almost everything in my wardrobe. The Goodyear welt gives the shoes a solid feel underfoot. They’re definitely heavier than my usual dress shoes, so that took a little getting used to.

The shell cordovan has a really nice depth to it, especially in natural light. It feels noticeably more substantial than regular calf leather. The shoes were pretty firm at first, but they’re starting to soften with wear.
