Alder is a black wingtip boot made with calfskin. Brogue detailing brings perforated patterns to the upper, drawing attention to the panels and toe.

Leather and finish

The upper is calfskin, with calfskin lining and a cowhide insole. The wash is applied to the assembled shoe, making it part of the finish on this pair.

Construction and sole

Bought these mainly for dinners and work events. The black washed finish makes them stand out from a basic pair of black shoes, but they’re still easy to match. Took me a couple of wears to get used to the weight.

The leather has a nice worn-in look without making the shoes look old. The rounded toe is comfortable and gives them a slightly more relaxed feel than my other dress shoes.

Really like the brogue detailing on these. I’ve worn them with both dress pants and dark jeans, and they work well with either. They are a bit heavier than my usual dress shoes, but feel solid.

The washed black leather looks even better in person. I like that they have some character without looking too flashy. They felt a little firm at first, but softened up after a few wears.
