Leather and finish

The upper is calfskin, with calfskin lining and a cowhide insole. The wash is applied to the assembled shoe, making it part of the finish on this pair.

I bought these because I wanted something less plain than a basic black dress shoe. The wingtip-style detailing adds just enough personality. They’re not especially lightweight, but they feel solid when walking.

The leather has a nice worn-in look without actually looking old. I wore them to the office and then out to dinner, and they didn’t feel out of place in either setting. The heel area needed a little breaking in for me.

These work well with both dress pants and dark jeans. The black color keeps them easy to match, while the perforated details make them a little more interesting. The sole is more substantial than I expected, but the grip feels good.

I really like the washed finish on the black leather. It gives the shoes more character than a regular smooth black pair, and the brogue details look clean without being too much. They felt a little firm at first, but loosened up after a few wears.
