Frontier is a coffee brown cap-toe service boot made with horse leather. A cap-toe seam divides the front panel from the vamp and gives the toe a clearly defined outline.

Leather and finish

The upper is horse leather, with horse leather lining and a cowhide insole. The wash is applied to the assembled shoe, making it part of the finish on this pair.

Construction and sole

Goodyear-welted construction is paired with a leather sole with rubber patches.

The cap toe and darker brown finish give these a really classic look. I’ve worn them with both jeans and wool trousers and they work with either. I’d recommend paying attention to the size chart before ordering.

First thing I noticed was the horse leather—it has more character than standard smooth leather. The welt construction also gives the boots a solid feel. They’re not lightweight, but I actually like that for this style.

These have a nice balance between a dress boot and a service boot. The coffee brown color is easy to wear with most of my wardrobe. Took me a couple days to get used to the firmer sole.

The leather feels thick and the stitching looks clean throughout. I also like that the brown has some depth instead of looking flat. A little heavier than my regular dress shoes, but that was expected.

Really like the shape of these boots, especially the cap toe. They work well with dark jeans and chinos and don’t look overly dressy. The leather does need a bit of break-in time.

The coffee brown color looks even better in person. The horse leather has a nice texture and feels substantial without looking too bulky. They were a little stiff the first couple of wears, but that’s getting better.
