Harcourt is a blue plain-toe derby made with calfskin. The plain toe keeps the front free of a cap seam, making the shape of the upper the focus.

Leather and finish

The upper is calfskin, with calfskin lining and a cowhide insole. The wash is applied to the assembled shoe, making it part of the finish on this pair.

Construction and sole

Cemented construction is paired with a leather sole with rubber patches.

Really like the texture of the leather on these. The color has some variation to it, so they don’t look flat or overly polished. Fit was good for me, though I’d still check the size chart before ordering.

I wasn’t sure about blue shoes at first, but these are surprisingly easy to wear. They look especially good with dark jeans and gray pants. The sole feels a bit heavier than a regular dress shoe.

The blue is darker and more subtle in person, which I actually prefer. The washed leather gives them a nice worn-in look without feeling too casual. They were a little stiff at first but softened up after a few wears.
